The first curatorial workshop of "Century: Sheng Project” launched in Hangzhou

作为艺术界的传奇，郑胜天是“‘85新潮”重要支持者之一，他的学生又是“‘85新潮”的核心先锋。在中国美术学院副院长高士明看来，“郑老师的人生经历贯穿了一直被分割的三个历史叙述: 新中国、后文革和新时代，这几个时期有自己的历史解释套路,郑老师这样的贯穿具有特殊价值。”他的人生就像一个广场，熙熙攘攘，人来人往。
“世纪：SHENG PROJECT”展览将于明年9月亮相位于北京的长征空间，本次展览以郑胜天数十年的艺术经历为个案研究对象，但并非简单意义上的个展或个人艺术回顾展。这一方面取决于郑胜天本人历来的行事风格，高士明说：“他向来是给别人做事，从来不给自己做事。”另一方面，也是更为重要的是，郑胜天本身的艺术生命与经验已足以当下人以其为参照重新丈量中国20世纪艺术史叙述。“郑胜天的人生可以说就是一个艺术计划，作品只是注脚，重要的是存乎其人，我们不妨称之为SHENG PROJECT。”本次展览联合策展人唐晓林如此说。
2015年12月30日，“世纪：SHENG PROJECT 策展工作坊”首次活动在中国美术学院召开，本次工作坊由高士明主持，灵魂人物郑胜天亲临现场并通过幻灯分享了诸多历史材料，同时还有多位思想史、艺术史学者参会，共同分享并讨论，推进策展思路。
本次工作坊是“世纪：SHENG PROJECT”展览持续性活动的首战，据悉，直至明年展览开幕，还会有类似工作坊或讨论会的活动召开，而伴随着本次工作坊的举办，也预示着“世纪：SHENG PROJECT”展览筹备的正式起航。

As a legend in art world, Zheng Shengtian was an important advocator of "'85 New Wave". Many of his students were core pioneers of that movement. Gao Shiming, the vice president of China Academy of Art, expressed his view on Sheng: "His life experience connects three historical narratives that usually were detached: the new China (1949-1976), post Cultural Revolution (1976-1989) and the new era (since 1990). Each period has its orthodox historical interpretation, but Sheng’s penetration throughout these years became extremely valuable.” His life is like a Zocaro (public square), bustled with people coming and going.
The exhibition "Century: Sheng Project" will be unveiled in Long March Space, Beijing in September 2016. The exhibition took a case study of Sheng’s artistic experience in past decades. It won’t be just simply a solo or a retrospective exhibition. On one hand, it reflects the usual style of Sheng. As Gao Shiming put it: “He has been always doing things for others, never does for himself." On the other hand, the life and experiences of Sheng are rich enough to help us re-evaluate the narrative of Chinese art history in 20th century. "Zheng Shengtian life can be seen as an art project. His works are just footnotes. His existence is more important. Let us call it Sheng Project.” Dr. Tang Xiaolin, one of the exhibition co-curators said.
On December 30, 2015, a curatorial workshop of "Century: Sheng Project” was held at the E.H. Gombrich and Jame Cahill Memorial Library, China Academy of Art in Hangzhou, chaired by Gao Shiming. The central figure Zheng Shengtian came to the meeting and introduced many historical materials with a slide show. Joined by a number of scholars of intellectual history and art history, the participants shared their view and stimulated broader curatorial ideas.
This workshop is the first event of a continues program for the exhibition. Following workshops and discussions will be organized before and after the opening of the show. This inaugurate workshop indicates the ""Century: Sheng Project" exhibition officially set sail.
